I Teach What I Do Because IT WORKS (really well)

I’ll typically spend around 50% of my ‘downtime” in a normal day in some sort of “personal development”. Yea, it sounds like a lot, and it is. And the amount of time i spend reading, listening to audio, coaching and “perfecting my craft” is pretty abnormal.

But I do it (now) BECAUSE I LOVE IT. And because it gets me TREMENDOUS results in my life and business.

Really, it saved my life when I began to take a long and honest look at myself back in 2008 when I was getting clean. But not because it taught me how to stay clean. A decision did that. Thorough personal development taught me how to release myself from the self made prison I had been living for the previous 10 years because of the way I viewed myself and the world, and the belief system I had formed from the people I hung out with and the garbage I put into my head.

The same thing happened when I started my business. I DECIDED I was going to be successful NO MATTER WHAT. And then I immersed myself into personal development which has helped me master the craft of communication, marketing and influence.

And by personal development I specifically mean . . .

Listening to audios everyday
Reading books
Coaching with people who know more than I do in a specific area
Attending events
Getting on calls

Damn, that’s starting to sound a lot like the ’8 Core Steps” :-)

Speed Up To Slow Down

Before I write anything here, I have to tell you – I’m super pumped about using the brand new Empower Network Video Hosting Service for this blog post. The other day I was out riding jet skis with my family, and as usual, I was going (really) fast and doing everything I could to catch as much air off each wave as I possibly could. This type of riding using results in really sore ass cheeks, hyena like laughter and an occasional ‘bloody murder’ scream or two. What I also noticed was that I like to ride a jet ski the same exact way I like to build my business (which tends to be the exact opposite of how most ‘gurus’ . . . ‘business brainiacs’ . . and . . ‘marketing experts’ teach in colleges and courses).

A “Tree” of Story Tellers

For the last year, every Wednesday I take my 13 y/o daughter out for “daddy/daughter night” — just her and I.

Tonight, she sat and told me stories for a couple of hours, and then shared how she was in the process of turning those stories into books, and eventually getting them onto the big screen. And when they were ready to be turned into movies, she wanted to MAKE SURE she casted the crew to ensure the wrong actors were not chosen to act out the roles she created.

Listening to her, made me think of a time when I told a story, pacing back and forth in the living room of an old house I lived in 2 1/2 years ago, on a conference call with about 100 people . . .

. . . as a little girl sat in the room next to me, listening in, as I talked about how one day I would be standing in front of 5,000 people sharing my life and teaching those people how to turn all the skeletons on their closet into their greatest and most ‘profitable’ assets.

And as I remembered that story, I looked back at my daughter as she finished her story, and I thought to myself . . .”Well hot damn, maybe the apple don’t fall far from the ‘ol tree after all”
